About the unofficial AO3 fanfiction purity test and its creators

ao3puritytest.com is a tiny fan project built by a handful of long-time AO3 readers and writers. We grew up on internet purity tests — the 100-question quizzes that got passed around in group chats and forum signatures — and we thought fanfiction deserved its own. So we made this free online AO3 purity test.

The archive is huge. It contains everything from soft coffee-shop AUs to unmarked graves of abandoned WIPs, and everyone who spends time there develops a wildly specific relationship with it. The AO3 purity test is our attempt to measure that relationship the only way we know how: with 217 deranged little checkboxes.
